Lets start our internet troubleshooting campaign with the BSNL connection one of the most sought after as they provide a good 2Mbps connection.

This guide is especially for DATAONE MODEM users

Goto any browser of your choice

Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar

if you get a login screen as below then goto next post

otherwise just goto START--->CONTROL PANEL->NETWORK CONNECTIONS-->LOCAL AREA CONNECTIONS

right click on it select properties and select TCP/IP and select PROPERTIES and set IP address as 192.168.1.2 and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and sefault gate way as 192.168.1.1 and select save and close

otherwise there will be no connection shown

“DSL LINK” (sometimes marked “ADSL” or “WAN”) should be lit solid. The DSL Link light will flash when the router is trying to connect to your DSL service. In most cases, it should take less than 30 seconds for your DSL router to connect and display a solid light. If the DSL link light continues to flash, try the following: 

With the exception of your DSL router, ensure that all devices plugged into the phone line, including fax machines, satellite receivers, and alarm systems, have a DSL line filter on them. These filters prevent interference with your DSL signal. The DSL router should be the only unfiltered device on the phone line.

In case of PPOE login into the modem and check if the PPPOE id password are correct.

More information on logging into the modem and PPPOE will be posted later

The phone cable coming from your DSL Router should plug directly into the wall outlet. Try bypassing any splitters or other devices as they can sometimes cause interference with your DSL signal. We suggest you remove and re-plug the phone cable into the DSL Router and the wall jack to ensure the cable is plugged in securely. The cable should ‘click’ when it is pushed into place
Try moving the DSL Router along with it's power supply and phone cable to a different telephone wall jack. There may be internal wiring issues causing problems with a specific wall jack or group of wall jacks at your location.
With your DSL Router turned off, check the phone line for line noise. Audible phone line noise might be interfering with your DSL signal. If you hear snaps or static when making a phone call, it is likely that the phone company will need to repair your wiring or the wiring in your house will need to be checked.
Running your DSL Router directly into the telephone Network Interface Device (NID) can eliminate the possibility of inside wiring issues. Please contact our technical support department for information on how to do this.

Remove Any Inrtermediate Devices 

If possible, remove any Inrtermediate devices that sit between your computer and the DSL router.

They may be

Hubs

Wireless routers

Network switches

Vonage phones

VOIP phones

Wired Routers etc........

Connect your computer directly into the DSL router so that you can eliminate the

possibility that another device on your network is causing the problem.

Restart the Computer 

It seems trivial, but you should always begin troubleshooting computer problems by rebooting your computer! This is particularly important if your computer has worked fine in the past and only just began to give problems.

Reboot DSL Router

Rebooting the router causes it to re-synchronize the DSL signal and the network connection to your computer.
Turn the DSL Router off and unplug the power cord of it. Then wait 30 seconds
Plug the powercord back into the DSL Router and turn it on. Wait another 30 seconds

Power LED Status 
Check the status of the LED lights located on the front panel of the DSL modem.
“POWER” or “PWR” should be lit solid. If the power light is unlit or is flashing, tryhe following:
Ensure that the power supply is plugged in securely, both at the wall outlet and at the back of the DSL router
You may need to try a different wall outlet.

STEP1.Download boot file. HERE
STEP2.Extract the BootSector file (boot.ima) from above into the folder E:\XP-SP2\
STEP3.Start Nero Burning ROM.
STEP4.Select File > New... from the menu.
               Select CD-ROM (Boot).
               Select Image file from Source of boot image data.
               Check Enable expert settings (for advanced users only!).
               Set Kind of emulation: to No Emulation.
               Set Load segment of sectors (hex!): to 0000.
               Set Number of loaded sectors: to 4.

- Set File name length to Max. of 31 chars (ISO Level 2).

- Set Format to Mode 1.

- Set Character Set to ISO 9660 (standard ISO CD-ROM).

- Check all Relax ISO Restrictions.

- Check Allow more than 64 characters for Joliet names.

- Check Finalize CD (No further writing possible!).
- Set Write Method to Disc-at-once. (We have had Track-At-Once work as well.)

- Click the New button.

- Select everything in the folder and drag it to the ISO compilation panel.
- Click the Write CD Dialog button.

Click the Boot tab.
- Verify the settings. Correct if needed.
- Click the Burn button.

thats it compilation completed and bootable disk ready

Slipstreaming a Service Pack, is the process to integrate the Service Pack into the installation so that with every new installation the Operating System and Service Pack are installed at the same time. 

Microsoft added the ability to Slipstream a Service Pack to Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It not only has the advantage that when you (re)install your OS, you don't have to apply the Service Pack later, also if you update any Windows component later, you'll be sure that you get the correct installation files if Windows needs any.

Download the "Network Install" of the Service Pack (English version [266 MB]), and save it to a directory (folder) on your hard drive (in my case E:\XP-SP2).AVOID using spaces in the folder name! 

Next copy your Windows XP CD to your hard drive. Just create a folder (I used E:\XP-CD), and copy all the contents of your Windows XP CD in that folder.

Next, open a Command Prompt

(Start > Run > cmd), and go to the folder where you downloaded SP2 (E:\XP-SP2).

Type the command: servicepack filename /integrate:drive/path.

In my example the command is WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU /integrate:E:\XP-CD.

An invalid page fault is caused when the operating system or a software program attempts to store or call a segment or block of the computer's memory that does not exist. Because of the invalid call, the program will generate an invalid page fault error message and terminate the program or process to prevent additional issues.
There are several reasons a computer may generate an Invalid Page fault error. Below are few of those possibilities.
Incompatibility or issue with the software programs.

Issues with the computer memory.

Delete all program temporary files

Delete all temporary files that may still be residing on the hard disk drive from currently or previously running programs.
Run Scandisk / Defrag
Attempt to run scandisk / defrag on the hard disk drive as it could be possible your hard disk drive may have an issue causing the swap file or data files to become corrupt or invalid
Update software or check for software patches
If you are experiencing invalid page faults in only one program, verify that the software program is compatible with the operating system you are running the program within. Also verify with the manufacturer or vendor of the software program that there are no available patches or updates for the program that may help or resolve your issue.
Recently installed software / hardware
If you have recently installed new software or hardware, attempt to uninstall or reinstall that software / hardware to verify it is not causing your issue.
Bad Memory, invalid bits or physically bad memory
It is possible that bad memory can cause Illegal Operations. If you have recently added memory to the computer it is recommended that it first be removed to verify that you are not experiencing conflictions with the recently installed memory.

Memory upgrades is the cheapest upgrade that you can make to improve your computers performance. If you feel that your computer is running slow and you had to wait several minutes before a program opens, it’s about time to try increasing your computer memory. If you are running Windows Xp in your Computer it is best to have a minimum of 512 MB memory, much better if you can have higher than that.If you want to do it yourself, you need to make sure that the memory you are buying is compatible to your computer.

1. Open notepad.exe, type “del c:\windows\prefetch\ntosboot-*.* /q” (without the quotes) & save as “ntosboot.bat” in c:\
2. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “gpedit.msc”.
3. Double click “Windows Settings” under “Computer Configuration” and double click again on “Shutdown” in the right window.
4. In the new window, click “add”, “Browse”, locate your “ntosboot.bat” file & click “Open”.
5. Click “OK”, “Apply” & “OK” once again to exit.
6. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “devmgmt.msc”.
7. Double click on “IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers”
8. Right click on “Primary IDE Channel” and select “Properties”.
9. Select the “Advanced Settings” tab then on the device or 1 that doesn’t have ‘device type’ greyed out select ‘none’ instead of ‘autodetect’ & click “OK”.
10. Right click on “Secondary IDE channel”, select “Properties” and repeat step 9.
11. Reboot your computer.

Scratches on a disc are a common issue with children these days. They play games continuously and recklessly running the same disk over and over again. This excessive usage of a particular DVD can damage it in the form of scratches or gauges. Though the players are well adapted to regular use. They are remarkably resistant to casual scratches. It may cause a CD player to skip or in case of DVD show odd video artifacts. While players are remarkably durable it is impossible to prevent it from scratches and scuffs from occurring from time to time. So there must be adequate measure too to keep some control on such misuse. There are various processes to repair scratched DVD may be temporarily or permanently. Though at times if it is hard damage it may be not remediable. The extent of repair possible depends on the amount of damage caused to the disc. 

To repair the DVD first of all we need to thoroughly check it by ourselves. We need to see if the scratch is beyond repairing by holding the disc up to light. The light should not be very harsh, as it would spoil the disc. If the light can be seen passing through the scratch then the disc is permanently destroyed and cannot be fixed. 
If the scratches are not too deep, we might make an attempt at fixing the ailment temporarily. Scratches on the upper label surface are impossible to repair but the shiny playing side of the disc is curable. As a hard and fast rule a CD should be cleaned with thin linen only. Water can also be used to lend a helping hand. If the process produces no results we have a secondary option of polishing the disc with toothpaste, which should be paste not gel in its form. Then cleaning with a wet and clean linen cloth will do. The thing worth remembering is we must not try cleaning by rubbing in circles but from inside the ring of the disc towards the outer edge. The repairing of the disc also depends on the amount of damage caused to it. As the scratches on the label side can prove to be a death sentence for them because most discs do not have an additional protective coating on the label side. Applying a layer of thin wax used in automobiles can also be helpful in polishing the disc and can smoothen the scratches to make it audible or visible. We can give it to a music shop to repair it. Sometimes they remove the upper coating of the disc removing the light scratches and lightening the deep gouges. This helps us restore our discs in the safe form to be played again. But if these methods are not effective then there is only the method of repairing kits and polishes or disc refinishing machines, left to try. These are available at game shops where they can industrially repair the disc in a mechanical way. 
It has also been seen sometimes that there are differences from one disc player to another in the sensitivity to damaged discs. They can handle scratches better than others. Computer CD drives best handle this. If all these methods prove ineffective then the disc is not worth a repair and has to be forgone. It can be used no further if not repaired by any of these methods. If it still plays on abruptly we can keep it or destroy it according to our wishes.
